About Dr. Cousins

Learn More About Dr. Cousins

I am a happy, relaxed, person who is more than a great listener. I have more than 30 years of experience in what works with people to get them going again to resolve life's trouble spots or help someone who has had trouble their entire life, and everyone in between. I am very understanding and allow clients to work at their own pace in resolving their problems quickly and give them the tools to face future challenges. It is HARD to take the first step of getting help but a skillful experienced psychologist CAN help, so write me! My role as consultant is partly from a psychoeducational perspective. I partner with clients in order to teach as well as learn from them about their particular difficulties. I let them know how changing their thinking and behavior can help them feel better and know what works to accomplish that! I am very eclectic, nonjudgemental and versatile in my approach.

I am part of the 10 percent of psychologists that have sought Board Certification and am one of the first in Houston to be board certified in Family Psychology (ABPP). I have taught both graduate and undergraduate psychology.

I went to school at Oberlin College where I got a Bachelors in Psychology with honors. I graduated from Oberlin with Phi Beta Kappa and attended graduate school at the University of Houston where I earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. After doing my internship at the Texas Research Institute of Mental Sciences I headed up Psychological Services at Houston International Hospital, was a psychologist at the University of Texas Health Science Center Employee Assistance Program, and was an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Texas Woman's University before starting my private practice.

I have two children, a wife and a dog, not always in that order. I have been told I have a dry sense of humor.
